Intervention, installation, and performance, carried out on the sculpture "Justice," by Alfredo Ceschiatti, in the Praça dos Três Poderes (DF). On the occasion of the impeachment of the President of the Republic, Fernando Collor, Xico Chaves placed two crossed eyes on the blindfold representing impartiality. The action, secretly planned for three months, coincidentally took place on the same day that, for the first time, the streets of the country's main capitals were taken over by the "cara-pintadas" (painted faces).
The artist was detained by special forces from the Presidential Palace, and there is also an unpublished dossier on the intervention, which had the merit of rescuing the image of justice as one that sees, since its archetypal symbolism as blind and impartial was already in transit. There was a succession of synchronicities as a media association. The action can be considered collective because it interacted with the collective unconscious, where it was circumscribed.
Following this action, the sculpture began to appear in almost all articles about justice and popular demands, becoming a central point of reference for demonstrations and public acts.
