 In the series “Drawers,” which combines paper cutouts, photographs, cotton threads, and gelatin, Mateu mixes and reuses objects accumulated through the collecting practice that forms the basis of his poetics, to create an original work. The manipulable “drawers” deal with the unpredictable and, with any movement of the viewer, reveal infinite and imprecise compositions. Just like memories. It is the multiple layers and permanence of the past that give thickness to the artist's present.
