backlit corten steel frame with photographic print on sheepskin
With the installation "Memory Boxes Anchored in Skin," Ilha-Terreiro artist Edu Monteiro was a finalist for the 2019 Pierre Verger Prize. The installation features photographs of Laamb, also known as Senegalese wrestling, printed on sheepskin. This work has a sculptural aspect that evokes the three-dimensionality of African art. Backlighting adds texture to the leather: each skin has a story, a life, making each print unique.
