Memory and identity - Chapter 1
Series: Singularities
Printing on cotton paper
42 x 30 cm
2020
Edition: 9
HW033
R$ 2,500.00
What determines us as a people? Is our 'document of existence' a CPF, an ID or a fingerprint? What identifies us are our differences? Our fingerprint is highlighted on personal documents and serves as a unique stamp of our existence in society. The fingerprint carries unique characteristics of our uniqueness and is used as an identification document. But, as “Brazilian people”, what is our brand? What identifies us as an intrinsic brand of Brazil?
These are the questions that underpin this research, the signs of memory and identity intersect as they complement and build each other. In this work it is possible to see the imagery construction of this symbolic bridge. There is no identity without memory, Brazilians are the result of their memory and the people are the 'fingerprint' of their country. What determines us as Brazil is the Brazilian people, our singularities are multiple, we are a Brazil made of “Brazil”.

HAL WILDSON
Brazilian Thought vol. III
Series: Original Utopia
Typing and stamp on book
21 x 27 cm
2023
HW134
R$ 6,000.00 [without acrylic]
Through the concept of Utopia (its etymology: nowhere), the idea of a country under construction and extensive research into popular demonstrations in Brazil, the artist appropriates several public domain images and creates a new image, a “Utopia Reinvented” based on social struggles and public protests. It questions the concept and origin of the “Brazilian Utopia” and focuses on research using documentation techniques to create a documentary-fictional image, where it debates contemporary themes and questions the way we tell and document history

Antonieta de Barros
Series: Identity Documents
Acrylic and ballpoint pen on identity document
14.5 x 11 cm
2022
HW123
R$ 2,500.00 [without acrylic]
The identity card formalizes, with a 3 x 4 photo of the flag and a map in place of the fingerprint, Brazil's colonizing, slavery and conservative heritage. In this work, Hal Wildson, born in Vale do Araguaia, a border region between Goiás and Mato Grosso, investigates personal and official documents as tools for manipulating memories. The artist discusses how the creation of Brazil was shaped by fictions and projects of power, permeated by an official history controlled by the oppressor's gaze. The document becomes support for the officialization of forms of social erasure and the state of crisis of its institutions, calling into question the formation and identity of the people, within an imposed notion of national identity.

Republic of inequality - Meritocracy be praised (N)
Digigraving, xerography and typing on Hahnemühle PhotoRag 188g cotton paper
11 x 24 cm
2018-2020
Edition: 30
HW015
R$ 1,450.00
This series appropriates the symbolic charge of "Real", the photographic power of Brazil's memory records, as well as the motto of a society that believes in merit as the solution to poverty, hunger and lack of opportunities. Hal Wildson alludes to Real's most valuable score. The works are purposely larger than an original banknote, highlighting an illusory, worthless speech full of promises that has been delivered to the Brazilian people for centuries.

PEDRO CARNEIRO
Series: Point of view
Acrylic on canvas
Diptych
15 x 20 cm
2020-2022
R$ 2,800.00
Starting from the idea of longing, faith and refuge, the series "Point of view" was conceived during the Covid19 pandemic, mainly at the beginning of social isolation in 2020.
The 15 x 10 cm canvases began to be produced as a daily, affective and nostalgic exercise. Like a family photo album, the paintings address various themes, becoming a diary that evolves throughout this process. A painting a day, an artist's book, where the pages are small canvases in a vast expanse of blue.
The paintings can be found in the sky, in private photos, in Pedro Carneiro's grandmother's backyard, in the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro, where they lived in isolation, in memories of the bar with friends and of the parties that occupied the city. Images of comic book heroes and anonymous, street demonstrations, affection between bodies and people, ancestral recovery through family photos. All of this is mixed together in this mosaic that is alive and can be made and remade.

MARCOS ROBERTO
Discomfort
Series: Daily Life
Oil on trafic sign
30 cm diameter
2021
MR017
R$ 4,000.00
In the Cotidiano series, the traffic signs are structured based on the same principle. The bodies we see appear to float, contrasting with the surface of the plates and their direct orientations, emphasizing the solitary atmosphere. You can see that the permissible mileage indications always refer to low speeds: 10km, 20km, 30km, or even STOP.
During the period he moved to São Paulo to study art, Marcos lived in the city center and walked a lot around the area. There, in addition to the memories of these bodies and scenes, there was also the perception that traffic signs always indicated low speeds for cars. This indication of deceleration, if thought of for our bodies, among other possibilities, is almost like a reminder to look around and see what the speed of urban flow ends up making invisible.

MATEU VELASCO
Series: Drawers
Paper cuttings, cotton threads and gelatin
17 x 17 cm
2020
R$ 1,000.00
In the “Gavetas” series, which combines paper cuttings, photographs, cotton threads and gelatin, Mateu mixes and reuses objects accumulated through the collecting exercise that is the basis of his poetry, to create an authorial work. The manipulable “drawers” deal with the unpredictable and, at any movement by the viewer, reveal infinite and imprecise compositions. Just like memories. It is the multiple layers and permanence of pasts that give thickness to the artist’s present.
